Powerful Presentations at the UU the Vote Sunday Service
Submitted by Jim Olson
Our UU the Vote service on July 21 featured five powerful presentations by members of our UU community speaking on how the November elections will impact them. If you missed the service, please consider watching the recording on the UUS website or the YouTube video linked below.
During the service, members of the congregation committed to take action to vote, encourage others to register and vote, to protect voting rights and to work with others. In addition to voting, the following actions received the strongest support:
- Having a conversation with someone who does not share your political believes
- Writing letters and postcards to low-propensity voters through Vote Forward (votefwd.org)
- Supporting groups that protect voting rights, especially the ACLU
- Signing up to be a precinct election official.
The UU the Vote Committee is planning more activities to help build multiracial democracy through voter registration, issue education, get out-the-vote drives, and voter protection. The committee needs your ideas and enthusiasm. If interested, please contact Jim Olson at jimolson921@gmail.com.
