The 2025 Summer Camp Schedule is Here!
You may think of this as pumpkin spice season, election season, or simply Autumn, but we’re already looking ahead to summer camp season.
There are eleven full weeks of summer scheduled for Iowa City Community School district this coming summer and here at UUS, we’re planning to provide camp for ten of those weeks. We’re bringing back all of our favorite camps from this past summer: Nature Camp, Peace Camp, and Musical Theater Camp.
SUMMER SCHEDULE
Nature Camp
ICCSD ends the school year on Friday, June 6th, and starting Monday, June 9th we will be ready with Nature Camp. Nature Camp at UUS is full of opportunities for child-led exploration of our woods, bioswales, Mud Creek, container pond, boulder scramble, and more! Children spend their time outside climbing trees, turning over logs, exploring nature guides, creating games, and learning about the world around them. We find ways to stay outside and active whether the sun is shining or the rain is creating glorious mud puddles.
Peace Camp
We take the first week of July off of camp and then return to UUS on July 7th for Peace Camp. During Peace Camp, we learn ways to find peace within us by practicing a variety of skills that promote inner peace. We also explore several social justice issues at a level appropriate for children while practicing skills that help us achieve interpersonal peace. In 2024, campers made snacks for the Free Lunch program and blankets for immigrant families and learned about Fair Trade all while playing games and learning to work together.
Musical Theater Camps
July 14 begins our first in a series of Musical Theater Camps. Our theater camps are two-week long camps that each end in a performance. Campers spend time playing theater games, learning about stage direction, auditioning, singing, dancing, creating props and backdrops, and more! Each camper has a role in the performance. This coming year, we plan to have three, 2-week theater camps. Our July theater camp will perform Lion King Kids! In August, our campers will perform Willy Wonka Kids and 101 Dalmations Kids on Fridays August 8th and 22nd respectively. Kids go back to school with ICCSD on Monday, August 25th.
Nature and Peace Camps are open for emerging kindergarteners through 6th grade. Our musical theater camps are open to emerging kindergarteners through age 17. While camps at UUS support our mission and vision by honoring the Earth, working toward social justice, and building deep connections within our community, our camps are secular and open to everyone.
