UUS Free Lunch Volunteer Serve 81 Meals in November
On November 8 a large group of UUS volunteers gathered to make lentil stew- ham and vegan, green salad, fruit salad and serve to 81 diners along with delicious homemade bars. Bonnie and Mark Penno, Sharon Beckman, Ron Pile, Barb Haring, Joy Thompson, David Quegg, Carolyn Johnson, Juliana Statton, Chris Smith, Joe Rasmussen, Carrie Norton, Ron Wright, Cynthia Crawford, Caryl Lyons, Gay Mikelson, John Elson, and Gary Lawrenson joined Frank Wildensee and Vicki Siefers to host the lunch—many thanks to all the people who dropped off fruit, greens and desserts for the lunch also.
On Friday, December 13, the UUS group will mix baked spaghetti casserole using a recipe from Sue Eberly’s collection and a pan of vegan pasta primavera. If you don’t already get our Sign Up Genius email, send an email to freelunch@uusic.org to get on the list.
According to Gay Mikelson, one of the original free lunch volunteers, we started doing this in 1983, one of the first congregations to sign up. The lunch was cooked and served at the Wesley House downtown before moving to CommUnity kitchen on Gilbert Court after the campaign to remodel the old Public Health offices.
We are looking for donors to contribute to the main dish in 2025. Contact Vicki Siefers at vicki.siefers@gmail.com if you are interested.
