Covenant Groups in September

After not meeting in July and August (though many groups met socially), covenant group members answered the invitation to reconvene in September and discuss “The Practice of Invitation.”

That was a formal event, but in a sense, every moment in our lives involves an informal invitation to us—to observe, to grow, to experience life fully. Or to rest, to preserve our energy for the next round of activity.

David Whyte says conversation contains an invitation:
“You are inviting another person to reveal [themselves] to you, to tell you who they are or what they want.”

Poet Adrienne Rich wrote that “Change is not a threat to your life, but an invitation to live.”

In other words, everything involves the process of inviting or being invited!  Maybe invitation is less an act than a way of being—openness to the possibilities around us, and a willingness to engage, explore, and discover.

If questions like these intrigue you, you might want to consider joining a covenant group.  The covenant group program offers its members the opportunity to share their views and deepen their understanding of a wide range of issues while creating closer ties with other UUs.
