Circle of Eight

September 14 @ 6:30 pm - September 15 @ 9:00 pm

A Circle of Eight

A group is forming to enter into a year-long exploration of Earth-based magic at its most intimate and immediate – the magic of this land in this time.  We will work within the broad structure of the relationship between the sun and the earth (the wheel of the year), but as it is immediately relevant to this area of Iowa – its climate, seasons, landscape, and community.  What are the elements intrinsic to our local magic? What is actually happening here at the solstices and equinoxes and the cross-quarter days half-way in between? Where are our sacred sites?  We will explore these ideas and do ritual together, in active communion with the earth we live on.

This is the organizing meeting for individuals who are interested in this work.  We will meet every 4-6 weeks (determined by group consensus). This work lends itself to a committed group – while we understand that life happens, we also want this work to be a priority to those who are a part of it. Once the work begins, the group will be closed. Though you are not committed by attending this meeting, it is our hope to end the evening knowing who wants to continue.  This work is inspired by the process described in the book “Circle of Eight” by Jane Meredith.  You do not need to purchase this book to be a part of the group, but it may be useful if you want more information about the inspiration for this work.  You can also email CUUPS@uusic.org with your questions.

Please bring a list of known “black-out” dates (as you are aware of them at this point) to assist in scheduling upcoming meetings.  You may also wish to bring a journal, water bottle, and something to add to a group altar. If you need childcare in order to attend this meeting, please let us know so we can make childcare arrangements. If you want to join the group, but are not able to attend this meeting, please email CUUPS@uusic.org to let us know.
