Diwali

November 17 @ 5:00 pm - 8:20 pm

Join us on November 17 at 5:00 PM to celebrate Diwali! RSVP here. We request a free-will donation to help offset the costs of presenting Diwali to our beloved community. Donate if you are able!

For Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, celebrants wear their finest clothes to illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with diyas (oil lamps) and rangoli (colored powdered quartz decorations), perform worship ceremonies of Lakshmi, the goddess of good fortune and wealth, light fireworks, and participate in family feasts, where sweets and gifts are shared.

Members of the Indian Community, Dr. Shuvendu Das, and some Indian friends will lead this program in a miniature form for UUS members and friends. They organize different South Asian cultural programs in this corridor. Dr. Das has lived in the Iowa City/Coralville area since 2003. Dr. Das works at The University of Iowa as a Research Scientist. He is also an adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry.
