Free Lunch News for October
September 13th was a busy day at Free Lunch. 119 dine-in meals were served with at least 30 take-out containers being filled. There was not one bite left of the Gourmet Macaroni and Cheese casseroles, green salad, fruit salad, and assorted desserts. Ginny and John Stamler assisted Frank Wildensee with mixing up of the casseroles. Gay Mikelson wrapped all the silverware. Carolyn Johnson, Russ Lenth, Vicki Siefers, and Theresa Ullerich chopped up fruit and veggies for salads, and Terri O’Berry, Janet McKee, Sharon Beckman, and Carolyn Johnson served the meal. John Elson, Gare Calhoun, and Caryl Lyons washed all the dishes.
On Friday, October 11th, the UUS group will serve chili in anticipation of some cool fall weather. There will be both meat and veggie versions. A sign-up will go out a few days before the meal so plan to help out or bring some fruits or veggies on that day. If you do not receive our emails, send an email to freelunch@uusic.org to get on the list. There is no obligation, you can get the information and decide if you would like to volunteer for an hour or two that day or drop off food. Main dish prep begins at 9 am, chopping of veggies and fruits starts at 10:30 and serving the meal is from noon to 1 pm. Clean-up begins at 12:15 and goes to about 1:15 pm. If you are too busy to do any of that, you may donate funds to purchase food for the main dish by sending a check to the office or giving on Realm by selecting the Free Lunch account.
Help Fulfill a Need!
The group is in need of some additional kitchen towels to use for clean-up. If you decide to go through your kitchen drawer and sort out your old towels, please don’t get rid of them, they are perfect for Free Lunch use. Just leave them at the church for Vicki Siefers and we will gratefully receive them.
