Little Village Features UUS in August Cover Story
Little Village Magazine featured UUS in its Aug. 5-18 issue, focusing on the congregation’s long history as a leader in social justice movements.
“Hosting suffragettes in the 19th century, lesbian dances in the ’70s and hundred of same-sex weddings before 2015, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City has always been ahead of its time,” begins the article titled “Sanctuary.”
The story especially features the “Love Bus” era in which more than 250 same-sex couples from Missouri traveled to UUS to be married between 2009 and 2015. But it also connects this particular period to the congregation’s consistent stand for equal rights for all, beginning with early acceptance of women leaders and continuing through today’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
The issue is available online and for free at local newsstands.
