UU Buddhist Sangha: December 2024

David Quegg

The UU Buddhist Sangha continues its focus on the Zen practice of Mahayana Buddhism. Zen philosophy is all about finding enlightenment, peace, and oneness. It is a term used to describe a specific type of Buddhism where people use meditation to live in the present moment without passing judgment on anything happening around them. People practicing Zen Buddhism find a way to look beyond materialism and value themselves instead of objects or attachments.

Are you searching for books to expand your knowledge of Zen Buddhism? Check out our recent agendas and bibliography posted on Realm beginning Oct 28. If you have ever wondered what is the sound of one hand clapping, join us on Monday eve. We won’t provide any answer, but an opportunity for this koan, and other Zen stories, to experience it directly rather than through intellectual understanding. That is why the Buddha taught his disciples in the Flower Sermon that the way to enlightenment is through the heart, not the mind. To find out more, contact the Buddhist Sangha group leaders at buddhistsangha@uusic.org.

Meeting Mondays, 7 pm on Zoom. Dates: Dec 2, 9, 16, 30. There will not be a meeting on Dec 23.
