UU Society to Welcome Asylum Seeks in January 2024!

Next month UU Society will welcome two asylum seekers in our midst!  Our sponsorship will be life-changing for them and enriching for us!

Hosts Fanny and Tom Carver will house the asylum seekers but will be supported by a group of UUs and others to provide transportation, English tutoring, help with completion of forms, orientation to the community and companionship.

A meeting of the support group will be on Monday, December 11 at 1 pm via zoom.  This meeting with Jessica Sapalio, director of the UU Congregational Accompaniment Program, is a planning meeting for the asylum seeker support group to be ready for the arrival of the asylum seekers.  Those interested should RSVP to Sally (sallyahartman@hotmail.com.

A celebration is in order because the Immigrant Action Team is very close to the goal of raising $5,000 that will go toward a stipend for the asylum seekers.  The UU Service Committee will match our $5,000.  Help us reach our goal by contributing by check with asylum in the memo line, or via Realm, by scrolling to Immigration Action.  Thank you to all who have donated so far!  We are almost there!
