UUS Free Lunch Volunteers Serve 100 Meals in October
Submitted by Vicki Siefers
On Friday, October 11, 15 volunteers showed up to make chili, green, and fruit salads and serve and clean up lunch. About 100 meals were served and there was nothing left over. It is becoming more common for the diners to hang around until all have been served and then come back for take-out containers to have for later. Frank Wildensee, John and Ginny Stamler, Russ Lenth, Carolyn Johnson Joy Thompson, Barb Haring, and Paul Gilbert were making chili and salads on Friday morning. Joe Rasmussen, Janet McKee, Terri O’Berry, and Carolyn Johnson served and John Elson, Caryl Lyons, and Cynthia Crawford were on the dishwashing line. Many thanks to all who donated fruits, veggies, and bars for dessert.
On November 8, the UUS team will make lentil stew. There will be a ham version and a vegan version and the stew will have many vegetables contributed by the Iowa Grow project. Look for the Sign Up Genius in your email box a few days before lunch. If you would like to get information about free lunch in your inbox, send a message to freelunch@uusic.org.
