Winter Celebrations at UUS
13 Magical Wishes: UUS Winter Solstice Celebration
December 21 at 5:30 pm
What would you wish for, if you knew you could make it come true? What are you willing to work for? What gift to yourself is worth the sacrifice of your precious time? On this longest night, the darkness will be our magic mirror. We will turn our gaze within to discover what we truly wish for in the coming year. Thirteen wishes for each person in the circle, “planted” in this time of darkness to germinate and grow into being as the light returns.
This event is open to the public and all are welcome. We will gather at 5:30 pm and the ritual will begin at 6:00 pm. There may be a brief period of darkness during the ritual. Children able to sit during guided meditation and move quietly through ritual space are welcome to join the ritual. Childcare will also be available during ritual.
Immediately following the ritual, we’ll celebrate with festive music! This will include community singing, instrumental pieces, and two songs performed by the UUS Singers. After the music, we will share warm drinks and wintery treats, and there will be a fire on the patio to burn those wishes being sent out to the Universe. All are welcome to join these parts of the celebration.
To bring:
• Most people will find it easier to express their wishes if they think about this in advance. These wishes should be things you could make come true on your own. There will be time to meditate on this during the ritual as well.
• Donations of treats that can be easily eaten without utensils would be appreciated (but are not required). Please bring a card listing the ingredients in your treats, so those with dietary restrictions can celebrate safely.
Please email cuups@uusic.org, or text 319-321-2307 with any questions or concerns
